The HTIC tutoring program opened in 1996 as an academic support system for the international students enrolled at HTIC. In time the program was redesigned and expanded to include more peer tutors who could assist HTIC students in enhancing their English language fluency.

Tutorial services are offered to enrolled HTIC students during academic terms. Students may sign up for appointment times or approach tutors with requests as available. Tutors render assistance to help students understand assignments, review and discuss ideas for projects, papers, practice pronunciation, and offer suggestions intended to help students achieve academic goals.

Tutors can provide help with grammar, pronunciation, and prompting thought in the writing process. Tutors assist student learning by encouraging students to improve their work habits and their understanding of learning processes.

Tutors will not help with researching topics, brainstorming for ideas, developing thesis statements, determining relevant ideas and supporting details, organizing ideas or assisting with take-home exams. For this type of assistance, students should contact their instructors; the librarians are also available for research assistance.

Tutors are available for English, grammar, pronunciation, mathematics, and Japanese. We are always looking for new tutors!
