Transfer to 4-Year Colleges/Universities

The HTIC Associate in Arts degree in Liberal Arts is designed for students interested in continuing their studies and earning baccalaureate degrees at four-year colleges or universities. About 92.3% of Liberal Arts students who entered in Winter term 2009 graduated with the Associate of Arts degree. During the 2008-2009 academic year, 84% of HTIC graduates transferred to institutions awarding baccalaureate degrees. From among these graduates, 95% chose to attend colleges or universities located in Hawaii or on the U.S. Mainland.

Three plan options are available for students based on their transfer intentions:
  1. The American University Plan: This degree plan is recommended for students who are interested in earning a baccalaureate degree from a U.S. college or university, and wish to start their program of study at HTIC and transfer to a 4-year institution after completing their Associate in Arts degree.
  2. The Tokai University Plan: This degree requirement plan is recommended for students who are interested in earning a baccalaureate degree from Tokai University, but who wish to start their program of study at HTIC and transfer after graduation. This plan is open to all students with Japanese language fluency.
  3. The General Education Plan: This degree requirement plan is for students who are interested in a U.S. Associate in Arts degree as their final educational goal. These students are interested in pursuing technical studies or employment after graduation from HTIC.

Articulation Agreements and Active Transfer Relationships between HTIC and other Colleges/Universities

Hawaii Tokai International College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), an institutional accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education. At the discretion of the receiving school, students may transfer credits to and from other accredited American colleges and universities. As these credits count toward the 4-year institution's core requirements, after transferring, HTIC graduates can focus on courses that fulfill the requirements toward their major.
