Hanyang University is one of the largest and most prestigious private universities in Korea. Originally established in 1939 as the country’s first private engineering college, it became a comprehensive coeducational university in 1959. With campuses in Seoul and Ansan, Hanyang University is comprised of more than 20 undergraduate colleges and 11 graduate schools.

Hanyang was selected 4th best university in the country by CEOs of the top 100 corporations in Korea (2008) and 2nd by the CEOS of the KOSDAQ firms (2008). The university’s full-time student population reached 23,677 undergraduates and 9,010 graduate students in October 2008. Hanyang University’s founding philosophy is Love in Truth and in Deed.

The International Language Institute of Hanyang University, located on the Seoul campus, was established in 1997. The Institute offers Korean language and cultural courses to students from as many as 40 countries four terms each year. The program is designed to improve the Korean language abilities of international students and to prepare them for university study in Korea. Classes are small to ensure that the needs of the individual student are effectively monitored and bi-weekly cultural events are scheduled to introduce students to the rich traditions and history of the country.
